Santa Maria di Leuca

Santa Maria di Leuca is called in latin "finibus terrae". This name means "to the ends of the earth" and it is used to speak about Santa Maria di Leuca because it is located in the southest part of Puglia. From the Sanctum located upon the hill, the tourist can enjoy of the beautiful landscapes offered by the sea.

Leuca is full of history and settlements of Greeks, Phoenicians and Cretans. Thanks to its central position, Leuca has been anchoring of many pirates which have destroyed and burnt the town a lot of times during the history.

Its coast is divided into two parts: the west side and the east side. The first one, facing the Ionian sea, is short, linear and full of marine coves. The second one is tall, indented and rocky. Both sides boast fantastic natural landscapes and beach resorts. The presence of a deep sea in many areas of the coast allow to the tourists to have wonderful experiences of snorkeling, through the visiting of some of the most beautiful underwater coves.

The harbor of Santa Maria di Leuca is a modern fishing and touristic port which can host many yachts and offer them protection from the Sirocco's winds.
