Dominica - The places of your holidays on a sailing yacht and catamaran

Dominica is an island country of the Caribbean Sea and a Commonwealth parliamentary democracy. It was the last Caribbean island to be conquered by the Europeans thanks to the strenuous struggle of the Caribe populations. The capital city is Roseau.

It's known as the "Island of Nature" and is covered in lush rainforests. It hosts a boiling lake, believed by many to be the second largest in the world. Dominica is also home to Morne Trois Pitons National Park, which Unesco has declared World Heritage Site.

The climate on the island is hot and humid, with few variations of temperatures during the year. The sultriest period is from May to October, even though the heat is cooled by breezes. As for flora, on the island the gumtree is common and traditionally used to build dugout canoes. Bwa kwaib or Carib wood tree  produces the national flowers of Dominica. 

Sisserou parrot is an endemic species of the island and an endangered bird; here a rare species of amphibious also lives, the mountain chicken frog. 

Economy is largely based on agriculture; especially on the cultivation of bananas. Main exports are bananas, bay oil, juices and oranges. Industries are few and generally employed in the production of soap, furniture, cement, shoes and in tourism. On the island poverty and unemplyment rates are extremely high. Dominica is considered to be a tax haven.
