Elba

Elba is the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, surrounded by two different seas: the Ligurian Sea in the north and the Tyrrhenian Sea in the south.

The landscape is very heterogeneus, in the west part there are many mountains, where is located the Mount Capanne, it is part of the Arcipelago Toscano National Park. Mount Capanne is the home of many rare animal species, like the the mouflon and wild boar.

The central part of the island is quite flat, while the east is the oldest part of the island, here were found some deposits of iron that made Elba famous.

Elba has a relevant historical past, that can be discover through its beautiful constractions. A worth visit is the Castello del Volterraio and the Napoleonic residences of the 1800s.

The island also offers several beautiful beaches and a crystal clear water, that make Elba a popular tourist destination. The beaches are many and different for typologies, on Elba you can find golden beach as well as white sandy beach, but also the most particular red sand, coming from the mineral mining area.
