Amalfi
Amalfi is the most antique marine republic of Italy, as well as a symbol of the amazing Costiera Amalfitana. Amalfi rises up along the river Canneto at the merging with the Valle dei Mulini, between Monte Aureo and Monte Tabor and it opens on a fan-shape towards the sea.
The Valle dei Mulini is the most urban area of the larger Valle delle Ferriere, but it still hosts specimens of flora and fauna and has been declared a natural reserve. For those who love trekking in breathtaking scenarios, the Valle delle Ferriere and the pedestrian path Via delle Signore from Amalfi to Atrani will make you fall in love with this region of Italy.
Into town, houses and shops are surrounded by plenty fresh alleys and you can visit also the Duomo. The story of this cathedral goes way back with the famous miracle of the Manna coming out of an urn inside this sacred place, saving the town from starvation. This event is still celebrated by the people of Amalfi on Novembre 27th. Inside the Duomo, it is possible to visit Basilica del Crocifisso (Crucifix Church) and the Chiostro del Paradiso (Heaven’s Monastrery) built in 1200.
During your holiday in Amalfi, you will admire also the Fontana del Popolo (People’s Fountain) built in the eighteenth-century, the Antique Arsenal and enjoy a drink in the picturesque Piazza dei Dogi with all its characteristic little boutiques.
A trip to Amalfi means discovering the fascinating panorama, the Costiera Amalfitana, one of the most beautiful spots in the world, with its striking clefts, the color of the sea, the amazing beaches, the Emerald Cave and breath in the perfume of lemon and olive trees.
