Montserrat

Montserrat, also known as “The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean”, is part of the Lesser Antilles. The island is characterized by the presence of the active volcano Soufrière Hills located in the southern part of the territory. Montserrat is also famous thanks to its amazing and colourful coral reefs and its caves that shape the coast. The island’s vegetation includes wonderful and rare examples, the Central Hills zone is characterized by rainforest and fruit plantations. On the other hand, its fauna also shows endemic animals.

Montserrat’s beaches are mainly dark and are located on the western coast. Rendezvous Bay is the only white beach located to the north of the island. Some of the most popular beaches are Little Bay, Bunkum Bay, Woodlands Beach, one of the best beaches to practice surf, and Old Road Bay.

Due to the volcanic eruption of 1997, the island has lost much of its cultural heritage belonging to the colonization period. Plymouth, the capital city and one of the most evocative and beautiful cities of the Caribbean, does not host colonial remains anymore. Anyway, Montserrat provides many other ways to discover and visit this amazing and interesting island. For example, by walking along some paths, such as Oriol Walkaway, it is possible to admire the natural beauties, in addition it is also one of the best locations to enjoy birdwatching. Interesting attractions are also the ghaut, deep gorges which conduct rainy water from the top of the mountains to the sea.

Montserrat also boasts a lively nightlife. On the island it is possible to find many characteristic bars where it is possible to meet people and stay together, relax with friends, sip a drink and have fun.
