Tortola
British Virgin Islands
Tortola is the largest and most populated of the British Virgin Island. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The tradition tells that Christopher Columbus called the island Tortola that means "land of the Turtle Dove", a migratory bird.
Tortola was formed by volcanic activity and presents many mountains, the higher is the Mount Sage. Mount Sage is a National Park, it is a protected area that shows typical rainforests, Bullet wood, an evergreen tree, Caribbean and Honduras Mahogany trees, and other rare species.
The island offers also beautiful beaches lapped by a crystal clear sea. The best beaches on the island are located in the north part. Here you can find Smuggler's Cove, Long Bay, Cane Garden Bay, Brewer's Bay, Josiah's Bay, and Lambert beach. Here you can relax and practice every kind of water activities, such as sailing, surfing, scuba diving, kite boarding, and windsurfing.
Tortola is a island loved by sailors and the people who want to relax and be in touch with the uncontaminated nature.
